Allen+Wohrle, LLP on the Radio (March-April 2009) Allen+Wohrle, LLP partners Jeffrey Allen and Joseph Wohrle were featured on several ESPN AM 710 broadcasts in March and April 2009. In one segment, which aired on March 8, Mr. Wohrle led a discussion regarding general business law. Allen+Wohrle, LLP Settles Case for New York-based Executive Search Boutique (March 2009) Allen+Wohrle, LLP completed its representation of a New York City executive search firm in litigation against a Los Angeles-based financial institution over fees related to the placement of a high-level executive. Seven months after filing the litigation, which was handled by partner Joseph Wohrle and associate Ignacio Zaragoza, the financial institution settled and agreed to compensate Allen+Wohrle, LLP's client. The president of the firm's client noted, "At first I thought it would prove an impossible task demanding compensation we earned from a national organization with resources that dwarfed [ours]. Your office enabled us to address this issue on an equal footing . . . you enabled us to be their equal. The compensation we ultimately received for the work we did was proof we could -- with your help -- contest this issue on its merit. Thank you once again."

Allen+Wohrle, LLP Successfully Settles Litigation Over Music Rights and Royalties (March 2009) Allen+Wohrle, LLP partner Jeffrey Allen successfully negotiated the settlement of a lawsuit filed on behalf Nichole Alden, a singer/songwriter whose music has been featured in several major motion pictures, television shows, and commercials, all of which have aired world-wide. Ms. Alden filed her lawsuit against a music production and distribution company, alleging causes of action for breach of contract, conversion, and unfair business practices, after discovering that several songs had been used without her permission in international advertisements for two luxury automobile manufacturers. Allen+Wohrle, LLP Defends Real Estate Action and Obtains Six-Figure Settlement In Favor of Defendant (March 2008) Allen+Wohrle, LLP partner Jeffrey Allen successfully defended an action to quiet title to a multi-million dollar estate in Los Angeles, which resulted in a six-figure payment by the plaintiff to the firm's client. Three months after accepting the case, which was a two-decade long dispute over ownership of the estate, Mr. Allen prevailed on a motion that resulted in the dismissal of nearly all of the allegations. The dismissal ultimately resulted in a successful settlement in favor of the firm's client.

Allen+Wohrle, LLP Successfully Settles Trademark Action Before TTAB (August 2007) Allen+Wohrle, LLP partner Jeffrey Allen successfully defended an Arizona-based, and nationally known, custom motorcycle company in an action for trademark infringement before the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. The claimant, a major international toy manufacturer, alleged that the motorcycle company's name and logo infringed on the trademark for one of its best-selling toys. Mr. Allen successfully negotiated a settlement of the dispute in which all of the claims were dismissed and the motorcycle company did not have to pay any compensation to the toy manufacturer.

Recent staff additions and projected, continued growth necessitated the firm's move into more spacious offices. Allen+Wohrle, LLP Prevails at Trial (April 2008) Allen+Wohrle, LLP represented an automobile body repair facility that was sued by the facility's prior lessor for nearly $340,000 in alleged damages to the premises and related relief. During the lessor's presentation of its evidence, firm partner Joseph Wohrle successfully moved to preclude one of the lessor's litigation experts from testifying before the jury, After the lessor presented its evidence to the jury, Joseph moved for a non-suit. The court granted the motion as to all claims related to damage to the property, leaving only the issue of back property taxes for the jury's consideration. The jury awarded the lessor a total of $6,880, about 2% of the amount demanded. However, the court also awarded over $11,000 in costs in favor or the Firm's client. Firm associate Ignacio Zaragoza provided "second-chair" support throughout the trial and drafted many pre- and post-trial documents.

Joseph Wohrle to Continue Teaching at Loyola Law School (April 2008) Firm partner Joseph Wohrle has been invited to teach once again at Loyola Law School. Mr. Wohrle will teach Civil Procedure II to second- and third-year law students during the spring semester of 2009. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola since 2005.

Six Figure Settlement Obtained in Personal Injury Matter (October 2007) Allen+Wohrle, LLP achieved a large, six-figure settlement in a matter brought against a national insurance company in an action stemming from serious injuries sustained by the Firm's client in a vehicular collision. After nearly two years of presentation of the claim and documentation to the insurance company, the parties were set to commence mandatory binding arbitration. As Firm partner Joseph Wohrle prepared to deliver his opening statement in the arbitration hearing, the insurer called for a recess. Settlement negotiations ensued and the insurance company offered to settle for an amount that compensated the client for all of his injuries and other damages. Firm associate Ignacio Zaragoza was involved in the case from the beginning and provided "second-chair" assistance at the arbitration hearing.

Allen+Wohrle, LLP Secures Dismissal of UK-Based Film Distributor (September 2007) In litigation filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, Allen+Wohrle, LLP partner Joseph Wohrle secured the dismissal of a lawsuit filed against a leading British film distributor. The plaintiff claimed that she had been wrongfully terminated by the client's US-based affiliate because of a dispute concerning a proprietary film content management database. The suit, which also alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress, sought compensatory and punitive damages. The cour's order granting the motion to dismiss enabled the firm's UK client to avoid a protracted and costly legal battle in California.

A Los Angeles resident since he was 5 years old, Ignacio graduated from Loyola Law School in 2005 and UCLA in 1996. Ignacio has worked with Joseph Wohrle since 1989 as both a legal assistant and, later, a law clerk. During that time, Ignacio gained considerable legal and practical experience, and an in-depth knowledge of the California court system and its rules. Ignacio's intellect, experience, and tireless work ethic will make him a tremendous asset to Allen+Wohrle, LLP.
